Flex2SQL Migration Utility Fonts Too Large

The Problem

The font in the Flex2SQL Migration Utility dialog boxes is larger than expected, resulting in cut off characters and an unattractive window display.

The Cause

Windows 7 includes a feature to improve the screen display on high resolution monitors. If the system is set to 125% of normal size, font sizes are increased as expected.  However, if the user sets the DPI back to 100%, scalable TrueType fonts adjust as expected, but bitmap fonts like MS Sans Serif do not.

The Solution

  1. Open the Windows Start menu and run Regedit

  2. Locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionFonts

  3. Find MS Sans Serif 8,10,12,14,18,24 and change SSERIFF.FON to SSERIFE.FON

  4. Restart your system for the changes to take effect.

Note
: You may also need to adjust MS Serif and Courier fonts to fix similar problems with other applications.
