Flex2SQL v14 Released and Available for Download

Mertech Data Systems, the leading provider of high-performance ISAM to SQL Database Connectivity (ISDBC) drivers, is pleased to announce the final release of Flex2SQL Version 14.0, which significantly improves efficiency and performance for DataFlex developers.

This version contains many enhancements, including:

• An improved API for LOB Access, including new interface commands and an enhanced chunking process. Previously, a LOB could only be read in 16 kb chunks and could only be accessed from the field itself, which was not ideal for large images. With the new process, images or other LOB data can now be loaded by looping through and loading or “reading” much larger (16 MB) chunks. In addition, the process runs while still keeping the record buffer size to a minimum, which conserves memory and optimizes performance.

• Integration with DataFlex 18.0’s new Native Data Type Mapping feature. When combined with the corresponding Mertech driver updates, developers can now create or edit tables right in the Studio with full support for whatever native data type they prefer to use for any supported database server. Previously this needed to be done using the Mertech Migration Utility. This tighter integration with the DataFlex Studio enables better workflows for table creation.

• Support for DataFlex 18.0’s new DDO SQL Filters feature. Through the Mertech driver, an SQL filter can now be executed on the server without impacting the rest of the application. Previously, records had to be filtered on the client side. Although in the past, the Mertech driver had enabled developers to go around this limitation via custom commands, now that DataFlex has incorporated this feature into the runtime and DDO classes it is much easier for developers using the Mertech driver to execute their filters with higher accuracy and better performance.

• Support for all major releases of database servers, such as MS SQL Server 2014, MYSQL 5.7 and PostgreSQL 9.4.

• Many other bug fixes and improvements.
